As part of the effort to develop tourism for the Dzongkhag, the Dzongkhag Administration in collaboration with the Jigme Khesar Strict Nature Reserve (JKSNR), Department of Tourism and Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation launched two books today at Chelela. The book launch was attended by key officials from the Department of Tourism, Helvetas office, Haa Dzongkhag Administration, Association of Bhutanese Tour Operators, and Tourism Development Committee members of Haa Dzongkhag, and the team from the JKSNR involved in writing the books.
One of the books is on ecotourism geo-mapping of all the distinctive tourism assets of Haa Dzongkhag; including treks, hiking trails, cultural sites, and institutions – with their location geo-coordinates, elevation level, and distance from the Dzongkhag HQs. The other book is on migratory winter birds found along the Tergola to Gakiling Gewog.
The publications are excellent resources for developing tourism for the Dzongkhag. Speaking at the function, the Offtg. Director of Department of Tourism said that the publications are a milestone for the Dzongkhag and would go a long way in promoting sustainable tourism for the Dzongkhag. The Country Director of Helvetas added that the publication would not only help promote the Dzongkhag as a preferred tourist destination, but would also be useful for managing the destination responsibly.
The publications would soon be made accessible online.
In the meanwhile, the Dzongkhag is gearing up with tourism development plans and expects the arrivals to increase manifold in the coming years.
