Nublang is the indigenous cattle breed of Bhutan, believed to have originated from Sangbay Gewog in Haa. It is considered a priority breed for conservation due to several threats to its survival, including the introduction of high-yielding exotic breeds.

Yaba-Shema chiwog in Sangbay Gewog has been identified as a potential Nublang Heritage Village due to its suitability for conserving and promoting the breed. The area already has Nublang cattle and grazing pasture, making it ideal for sustainable rearing and expansion.

Recognising this, the Dzongkhag Administration with support from National Biodiversity Center is providing support for breed improvement, enhanced milk and dairy production, better management practices, and other livestock-based activities. As part of this support, CGI sheets and fodder seeds were distributed to the Nublang Heritage Group at Yaba-Shema and to Nublang-rearing farmers in Rangtse under Gakiling Gewog. Beneficiaries will soon receive cement and dairy equipment, with CGI sheets intended for cattle sheds construction.
